I agree, the precocious youngster types are a bore. A show I really liked was the short-lived "Freaks and Geeks," an excellent, intelligent show where the kids definitely acted like kids and struggled with issues. True to form, the kid actors were not physically attractive--but the Sam character was appealing because of his basic kindness and intelligence (and a wonderful laugh.) Incidentally, he is on a new ABC show now, I noticed and I felt really happy for him. It's similar to my feelings about Haley Joel Osment--I don't find him a stunning good looker yet (you know my tastes!), but he has a very appealing personality on-screen, like someone you would like to get to know.
