Here's the giveaway, SS: They refer, in the synopsis to Tom Sawyer as a "troublemaking boy on the verge of becoming a man." Now, anybody who knows anything about TS knows that he is NOT "on the verge of becoming a man." He is a preteen and his behavior and antics all point in that direction. Even his attempts to impress Becky Thatcher have that prepubescent charm and innocence that is devoid of all the adolescent social posturing typical of older teens. I think they're going to wreck the story entirely, so I agree with your fear. It will be interesting to see how they manage it.

Since you mentioned it, I have to say that there's nothing I hate more than actors in their early twenties playing high school students (or even junior high on occasion) on TV and in the movies. I'm surprised that people "buy" it, because it always seems so phony to me. It also seems to be happening more often these days than it used to.
