As an answer to: I'm sorry for a post like this :-( written by Hulann am 12 Jun 2001 11:14:51:

Sadly, when the justice system has made great strides in recognizing and prosecuting hate crimes (against minorities, against gays, etc.), they still cannot see themselves clear to protecting the basic human rights of someone who was convicted of a crime they find repugnant. That is SO wrong.

Is there a chance that the perpetrators DO consider this to have "settled the score"? There are some types who would be "content" to leave you alone after having taking out their animal aggression on you once. Unfortunately, there are others who--having gotten away with it once--will escalate the violence until you DO end up dead. I would hope that, knowing the police have been involved, they feel that they are not so likely to get away with it a second time. I'll be hoping the best for you.

Returning the violence could lead to an escalation, too. Plus it lowers you to their level. I know how hard it is for a man to walk away after having been physically attacked (same happened to me once, but not as severe and not the same circumstances).

I hope you can put it behind you. We do not need any modern martyr to our cause. Be safe!
