By the time this film was released in 1984, Wolfgang had already been widely praised for his earlier film Das Boot, and he was on the move from Germany to Hollywood. His Hollywood career has been extremely successful: he is now a highly-regarded action-film director (Enemy Mine, In the Line of Fire, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm).
But the Wolfgang Petersen film I want to see is Die Konsequenz (The Consequence), released in 1977 to critical approval (see link below). It tells the story of a boy who falls in love with a convict who is imprisoned where the boy's father works. I have never seen it, nor spoken with anyone who has. Forget DVD: this picture has never even been available on VHS tape. :(
