As an answer to: I might actually know one of these written by Dusty am 30 May 2001 23:21:56:

Kudos to you, Dustman!

Stanley Kubrick did, indeed, have Joseph Mazzello in mind for the starring role in "A.I.", even going so far as to film some test scenes with Joey M. For whatever reason, it didn't work out. Kubrick went on to do "Eyes Wide Shut" instead, with "A.I." intended to be his next film. Spielberg took over the project with the blessing of Kubrick's widow.

I'm not aware of Arthur Clarke being directly involved in the "A.I." project, but that may well be the case. I was going for the more obscure connection: Kubrick directed "2001" based on a story by Clarke--sort of a "two degrees of separation" deal in the manner of the Kevin Bacon game.

At any rate, since you've delivered the first correct answer, I hereby award you a pair of cargo shorts worn by Joey in "Jurassic Park". They're hidden somewhere on Dino Island; find them, and they're yours! :)
