As an answer to: Kieran Culkin - quite a different talent written by kabouter am 26 May 2001 22:27:20:

I've never read any of Jean Shepherd's books (mainly autobiographical novels), but there have been several other memorable films made from his work.

"A Christmas Story" (1983) starring Peter Billingsly

"The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters," (1982; made for TV), featuring a young Matt Dillon

"Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss" (1989; made for TV), starring a young Jerry O'Connell (from "Stand By Me")

These were all whimsical, boy-centric stories. It's too bad Mr. Shepherd died in 1999.
