Kieran Culkin - quite a different talent

What Mac got in the looks department Kieran got in the acting ability section, no question about it.

I watched It Runs in the Family (1994) last night. What a glorious boy-filled romp. The film was a collage actually and it shows, a jumble of excellent boy-summer stories knitted together loosely into a film. It almost doesn't work but Kieran does a lot to help it along.

The author, Jean Sheppard is a sort of Louisa May Alcott-meets-Ray Bradbury writer....and I would love to read the books that spawned this movie.

Ralphie (Kieran)lives with his little brother (played by Christian Culkin) in a small Indiana town in the late 1930's. Ma collects celebrity porcelain and dad is an offbeat but amiable eccentric.

Ralphie biggest ambition along with his two friends is to beat the school bully at playing "tops". He learns a few lessons of life along the way but the moralising isn't too heavy and the sheer boy exuberance far outweighs it.

Catch this one as well if you haven't seen it before. Not in my top 100 boy films but still well up on most Hollywood output.

Christian is about 6, gap-toothed and raucus. I would be interested to find out more about the other Culkins I believe there is one called Rory as well. Feel at liberty to enlighten me.

:)
