I've thought the same thing

In a way, I'm hoping that the success and dominance of the DVD format will have the same result. You KNOW that customers of Award Films and similar distributors are begging for DVDs. It would be a significant expense for such small operators, but I think we buyers would make it worth their while.

Making digital disk transfers from the VHS sources would be better than nothing, I agree, but the BEST would be to make transfers from a good print of the actual film. Hell, I'd even take it without "restoration" if that's what would be needed.

But for every "You Are Not Alone" (which IS still available for sale on VHS), there are probably dozens of other mostly forgotten boy films that are no longer accessible (think of some of the esoteric titles on "Huck's List" and the old "Cub Cuddler List"). Man, if we could only find a way to restore and preserve some of THOSE titles!

I'm also betting that equipment and software to do DVD transfers and mastering will be cheaper and easier to come by. It's probably getting good quality film prints of the movies that would be the hardest hurdle.

I'm with you in spirit. Just wish I had a few hundred thou to throw into such an effort. Hell, I'm sure Award Films started small!
