Miko and Brucie

It was a complete accident I swear. I borrowed 4 of the has-been movies in my local store and the first one out of the box was Mercury Rising (1998).
It stars, guess who, Mike Hughes and Bruce Willis. Now Bruce is just his usual tough man persona but Miko plays a more challenging role as an autistic 9 yr old boy hunted by the NSA because he has inadvertently cracked their most secret code.
OK I know autistic is another Hollywood flavour of the month and as a former teacher/nurse with autistic kids I am going to be critical here but Miko does quite well as Simon the boy savant. Like I said its a challenging role and he meets it. Brucie ain't half bad either....
Which brings me briefly to "the Kid" last night's non-event. Yawn.... Brucie an ageing 40 yr old image consultant meets his dorky 8 yr old self.... promising material but hey no-one did it before and so they don't know where to go with this one... it's a bit cerebral for our team methinks.. Spencer Breslin was superb as the overweight and decidedly uncute younger Willis... nice to see a boy anti-hero and this kid can act.
I give Spencer 10/10 but kid lose some weight and keep the personality OK?
