NY POST...PAGE 6

JUST hours after his pal Robert Downey Jr. was busted for abusing drugs,
"Terminator 2" star Edward Furlong ended up in the emergency room of Cedars
Sinai Medical Center with what friends fear was an overdose.

Two different officials in the admissions department of Cedars Sinai told PAGE
SIX that Furlong was admitted Tuesday night and released early yesterday
morning. The hospital would not comment on his condition.

Furlong's representative, David Lust, said, "I talked to Eddie at 7 p.m.
[Tuesday] and he was fine, I don't know what you are talking about." Lust
didn't return repeated further calls.

Furlong's problems began long after 7 p.m. Partiers said he showed up at the
Whiskey on Sunset Boulevard to catch a performance by the band Deadsy. Although
his ex-girlfriend Paris Hilton was there partying with Jared Leto, Gregg
Allman's daughter Courtney Wagner, and Samantha Kluge (reunited with her hubby
Richie Birkenhead), Furlong showed up with a "very beautiful" dark-haired
woman.

"[Furlong and Hilton] didn't seem to have much to talk about as she is still
sober and he is not," said our witness. Later on that night, Furlong was found
sitting dazed on a stoop at the Whiskey next to his date. "He looked like hell
- he either had a lot of goth make-up on, or his under-eye circles were
horrific," said our source. "He was completely out of it." Later still, Furlong
was found by his date lying in a pool of vomit and taken to Cedars.

Furlong, 23, has had a long history of substance abuse, which spiraled out of
control last fall when he hit the New York party circuit with indefatigable
hotel heiress Paris.

She reportedly joined Alcoholics Anonymous and has been sober for several
months.

The actor - "in an apparent state of free fall" as "he was dragged like a doll
all over the city by Paris," as US Weekly reported last fall - soon admitted
himself into Malibu Promises, a $1,000-a-day clinic, at the insistence of his
agent and pals who had intervened to confront him with his drinking and
partying.

"They said you've got to slow down and you need help," Furlong told US Weekly
at the time.

Although Furlong was in rehab for a month, he was back out on the party circuit
days after his release and even showed up at the Playboy mansion for New Year's
Eve.

Since then he has continued to haunt parties while chain-smoking and drinking.
He is set to start filming "Terminator 3" any day now.

I always liked him and I hope he doesn't pull another River Phoenix. We've lost too many young actors to drug overdoses.
