The answer was supposed to appear at the bottom of that message as an IMDb link. I hadn't realised that it did not work! People must think I'm an awful tease . . . or awful stupid!
By the way, IMBd has a "character search" on the main search screen. You can use it to find what OTHER boy-related movie has a character who is also named "Smut." Heh heh.
Anyway, the film I was talking about was "Drowning by Numbers" (1988) by Peter Greenaway. Jason Edwards is the young boy who practices defenestration, mutilates his manhood, and then hangs himself at the end of the film. A real upbeat, feel-good film, no?
