Brandon Call played Hobie in the first season (1989-90) and was later replaced by Jackson. Brandon really WAS cute in that first season, and he certainly was no great looker as a teenager. You might remember him as "J.T." in a TV show called "Step by Step" about a blended family a la The Brady Bunch.
There are two interesting things about him on his IMDb page. He does not seem to have had a major role since "Step by Step," and Brandon was originally selected to play the part of "Kevin Arnold" in "The Wonder Years" (1988) but was replaced at the last minute by Fred Savage.
