I actually think that US directors are good at having kids appear natural and cute in front of the camera. The main weaknesses about Hollywood movies are the extensive cliches and the sentimentality (and then there's the lack of nudity too :-) ), when it comes to actual _acting_ I find American boy actors better than most boy actors from other parts of the world.
The Swedes are also really good at making kids appear natural, though. Particuarly the kids in the Astrid Lindgren movies...
