Inside the mind of a boy...

The movie is quite bizarre. Lucas, aged about 8 is going blind. He fantasises that its the rest of the world that is blind and he is the seeing one.
He roams the streets of London little supervised by his busy parents...
Halfway through the film we see a different reality, still pretty much through Lucas' eyes. There are a host of images all to do with vision, window cleaners, missing light bulbs, mirrors and photographers....
It is suggested that most of the film in fact occurred during the secinds while Lucas was waiting for the aneasthetic to kick in before corrective eye surgery... or did it?
Its an eerie film but one that had me transfixed to my TV.
A little English boy, Ben Keyworth, plays the lead role. Ben is a superb actor although like most european kids was only allowed to make two movies, this one Afraid of the Dark (1991) and harnessing Peacocks (1992). He enjoys maybe 99% of the screen time a real boon given that I think him to look much like a younger Bjorn Andereson (Death in Venice..). The movie starts with Ben in his pajamas and he sports this fetching attire several times in the movie. OK its supposed to alow us to enter the mind of a kid but I was distracted, wanting of course to enter his jimjam bottoms as well... :P
"Afraid of the Dark" (1991)is one of my must-sees folks. Its is available on laserdisc and video. I think it is also on TV in SuperBigBurgerland sometime this week.
